I know I really should be going into work today. I never ever miss! But I just need a good excuse not to go today. I don't like to lie so I don't want to say I'm sick if I'm not. But can anyone think of anything that sounds real?

Yes just say you're not able to come in. If pressed, can just say "for personal reasons." Then your boss will probably stop the questioning there and make some wild assumptions.
If you don't frequently take days off I wouldn't worry about it. We all need a mental health day from time to time.
