I used to buy elsewhere and the chicken had a chicken-y smell almost all the time, so I started to buy at Gourmet Glatt. This week, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE BUYING AT GOURMET GLATT, I noticed a definite smell. I think fresh chicken shouldnt smell.

Anyone else notice a difference in their chicken this week? This is the 2 cut up chicken.

IM not scared of using it bec the other store I used to buy at always or very often had that smell and I used it, but now I pay more per pound.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help but think of that ancient Jewish joke :-)

(#1580) The chicken inspector

Freda walks into MINKOFF THE BUTCHER and asks Harry for the freshest chicken he has. So Harry pulls out a chicken for her to inspect. Freda immediately gets to work. She starts by looking it over inside and out. She then sniffs it at both ends and continues to sniff all around it. Finally, she puts her nose inside the body cavity. Then Freda hands the chicken back to Harry and says, "You call this a fresh chicken?"

"Mrs Cohen," replies Harry, "you could pass such an inspection?"

Amarante, I hope both of us humans do our best to smell ok, but as far as raw chickens, Gourmet Glatt's chickens have NOT smelled at all over the past year. I didnt just develop a sense of smell this week. The other supermarkets chickens almost always had a smell. I much prefer smell-less chickens. How about you?

I thought I was clear that it was a joke that I think of whenever the subject of chicken comes up. It's the equivalent of an ear worm :-)

I didn't mean that one should not want a chicken that doesn't smell. :-)

When youre ready to cook youre not going to drop everything and run to the store, unless youre gonna die from it. The other store's chicken always smells.

If it makes you feel any better OP, my breast of lamb from Gourmet Glatt smells this week too. Very disappointing.

Edited to fix typo.

Oops, I meant breast of lamb.

Yes, I washed it for a long time under cold running water then rubbed in a thick paste of garlic. But I am not happy about it.
