I am looking for a camp for my son. Can be very simple camp, he doesn't need major trips or anything. I'd be fine with backyard camp but it must be very warm and calm environment. We are coming for summer from OOT and need a place where he'll feel comfortable not knowing anyone. (I prefer girl counselors rather than rebbi/boys counselor)
Also do any camps have options by the week because we are coming for 3 weeks and in middle of both halves.
Please post names/#s.
Thank you!

I only have girls, so don't rely solely on my post.
I'm not sure what you're looking for actually exists. Backyard camps around here are rare and tend to be for much younger kids who are more easily satisfied with a wading pool and some toys.
Regular camps are likely to already be full. I know that I registered my oldest in December. I don't know what type of environment you're looking for. All boys, coed, etc?
Off the top of my head, try looking into Camp Simcha, Camp Toras Chaim, Camp Avnet, and Camp Funshine. I'm sure there are others as well.
Good luck!

my kids arent huge campers, but I do believe that camp toras chaim's oldest bunk is going into pre1A, not first gr.
I also have a feeling that none of the boys camps (above preschool age) have girl counselors, mostly boys/rebbe's.
I have also heard that camp Ma Tov in far rockaway (in Yeshiva of Far Rockaway) will work with you on a week-to-week basis, and I dont think they fill up like the other camps. be aware though, that they are very no-frills and the morning is all learning.
Camp Machane Yisroel is in Yeshiva of South shore, and they are also a low key camp compared to some of the others around here, and very heimish in that I think they'll probably also allow you to sign up just for the weeks you want. but both of those camps have teenage boys for counselors and a rebbe.
I personally do not know of any backyard camps for boys older than preschool. try the FiveTownsShuls yahoo group. someone might know of one.

Thanks for your replies.
Funshine he went to last summer, loved it but was the oldest bunk.
I just applied to machane yisroel, just didn't know they have entering first grade, thought was coming out of 1st grade.
Thanks for all your info!

Was rethinking to maybe send my entering first grade son to ma tov instead of machane yisroel.
Can't imagine that age learns all morning? DO you know if they make it fun at all?
It's so much cheaper!!! and he's used to little camps so maybe I don't need to do machane yisroel yet.
any thoughts...advise...
THank you!

I have no idea how much learning the youngest bunk does, or what type of learning. I'm sure you can call and ask to speak to the rebbe and get a sense of what kind of guy he is, if he makes it fun or not.
the few ppl I know who have sent there have been very happy. I also heard of one kid who only went in the afternoons so he wouldnt have to sit too much in the morning.
