They sell chalav yisroel organic milk. You can make your own yogurt from it.

I know of an organic goats farm in monsey that delivers to your house in Brooklyn once a week. They have milk, yogurt, kefir. (Maybe cheese but I'm not sure). Let me know if you want the phone num.

There is a cholov yisrael raw, organic, grass-fed milk delivery to Brooklyn every other week. If you PM me I can try to put you in touch with the organizer to order.

You Tube has videos about how to make yogurt, also cottage cheese and kefir. Yogurt making is particularly easy.

One can buy a yogurt maker, even better.

You get plain or Greek yogurt at the store just once. Then you keep using a little of your own home made yogurt as a starter to make your next batch.

It can be done overnight, so you wake up to it.

You might put honey or agave syrup in it, to cut the sourness, if you want.

Special, particular, techniques might need to be used with raw milk; I don't know, but you could look into it.

I haven't done all this but I have been interested. Here are some links

You can get cheese cloth by the roll online:

There is a brand of organic milk called Bethel Farms. It is available at Super 13 and at Einhorn's on 16th ave. Be prepared to pay a premium though, it's $6.50 for a half gallon.

Dolly I love you! I have been looking for kosher yogurt and cheese cultures for sooo long!! Now I just have to check out the fact that they are not cholov yisrael but they have a non dairy one. It just has rice maltodextrin which is not ok for our special dietS but I think a conversion to cholov yisrael may be possible.

Ah! Moo!

Start a thread describing your results, when you have made yogurt and cheese and all. With photos.

There is a LOT of money to be saved by making your own yogurt, I think.

I have just put up some pickles. We will see.

Yup I make pickles/saurkraut/beet kvass all the time but dairy culture has been a huge hurdle!. I get cholov yisrael raw organic milk and would love to make raw cheeses. Thanks!

Ah. Please post how to make pickles, sauerkraut, beet kvass, when you have time.

Here are some more links. I haven't actually done any of this.

I read somewhere not to make cheese and bread on the same day. The bread yeast gets into your kitchen's air and bothers the cheese somehow.

Soft cheese is rather easy and if you think you are going to be making cheese you can also buy some vegetarian rennet too. I make all of my own soft cheeses. It's a great science project for a 7 or 8 yo as well. Imagine their thrill when they make their own mozzarella for pizza one night!!

op here. thanks for the replies. I found the bethel cholov yisrael organic milk. As for the yogurt, I am going to give the kids non cholov yisrael organic as there are no options and I'm not ready to make my own. I am so sorry that all there is in cholov yisrael baby yogurts is givat kids which is full of artificial stuff and tons of sugar. I feel bad that I've been feeding it to them all this time Sad
