Ipad Air weighs slightly less and chip is slightly faster.
The biggest difference is that ipad Air uses the fingerprint security technology
In would get the Ipad Air for the $100 difference especially since you will be using it away from home for work related stuff.

Your question isn't very clear, there are many iPads. There is iPad two, three, four and then you have the iPad Air 1 or 2
I would go min for the iPad Air 1 so that you can keep up-to-date with the software. I have the iPad Air 1 and very happy with it. Air 2 has the fingerprints.
