I look after a few babies in my home, and there is this one girl who screeches all day. She doesn't look sad, she just makes this awful, loud, high pitched screeching noise, it sounds like she's being tortured, but she is often smiling when she does it. If anyone does annoy her (touch her, go too near her, take her toy) it's even worse.
It drives me CRAZY, and the other babies too... although of course sometimes they join in and screech too.
What do I do!?!?!

My 10 month old just started doing this as well. I haven't tried anything yet because he'll do it only for short bits of time, so I just deal with it. Sometimes it seems to mean he's feeling ignored and trying to ask for something like more of something to eat. In your case, if giving her food/drink doesn't help, I'd try putting on music and/or singing with the kids. Even quiet music is worth a try. Maybe she just wants to hear something and that will replace her own lovely voice? Otherwise, as long as she's not actually upset, I'm going to guess it's just a phase and will stop in the next couple of weeks.

My niece is going through this stage (11 months). Both of my kids went through it too. It can be unbearable but seems to be pretty normal.

I would ask the mother if she does it at home also, and if it keeps up, I'd nicely say that it's causing the other children to be frightened and cry, and that you don't think you could handle it
