Presto company says its a sure way to destroy the appliance. Not only dont they suggest immersing the popper, they recommend only surface cleaning with a dry cloth.

well, there's another option. if you take it apart (to the degree that you would need a professional to reassemble it) and reassemble it yourself, it can be considered to be built by you, in which case tevila is not required. this is according to my rav, though, so AYLOR before doing this yourself. and in a pinch, a good old pot will pop your popcorn if this is ruined.

We, following our rabbi, only take detachable parts of appliances (like a food processor blade) for tevilah (if it did not come apart we would not immerse anything) and if there was something physically connected to the motor or electronics that would otherwise be immersed we don't. But ask your rabbi.

Yes, ours survived just fine. We waited several days to make sure it was completely dry before using.
