Me too.
I wait the morning out in bed while the kids are more relaxed, playing, watching tv.
And then around 12 when everyone starts wanting attention and I need to actually feed people and keep them entertained for the next 8 hours, I take one.
I feel amazing afterwards and it keeps me going till about an hour before the fast ends.
In fact, sometimes I feel so good that I forget I'm fasting and think, gee why am I so thirsty?

A handful of almonds (natural, not roasted) right before the fast.
Carb +protein combo at the meal before. Sweet potatoes are especially good, paticularly boiled since it lowers their glycemic index. Lentils are good too (like in majadarah) and are also traditional for the mafseket before 9 B'Av.

Carbs and fats are good, protein not.
Almond butter really helps.
Grape juice is hydrating, this year we can have it because of shabbos.
Grapes
Kalei Tzom pills or drops. Crush or dilute in shot glasses of juice to be able to take them on Shabbos.
LOTS of water from a few days before.
Start weaning yourself from caffeine a week before.

Break your fast on water and a fruit. It gets your digestive system going more comfortably.

3 liters of water a day for the 3 days leading up to the fast. If you want to make some of that coconut water, that's good too.
Don't step outside all day. Make the a/c really cold. Stay on the couch as much as possible.

How much almond butter do you eat? Do you know why it helps?

I try to have a few tablespoons. Spread it thickly on bread , crackers, rice cakes, and drizzle with honey.
Don't know why, but I see a difference.

Might be a placebo, but ever since we started drinking lots of Powerade and eating carrots before fast days, they've all gone smoothly. I find Powerade also helps me to revive if I drink it after the fast.

(And it's really the carrots that I think might be just a placebo.)
