Thinking of eating something lighter than cholent this Shabbos because of the fast, but DH would still like something warm - anyone make chicken in crockpot for shabbos day?

you can make chicken and rice quite easily.
equal amounts rice and water in the bottom of the pot. add salt, stir well. cover as much rice as possible with chicken pieces (leave the skin on). spice chicken as desired. set on low.
be aware that any rice not covered by chicken will be really hard and will not have any chicken flavor. the chicken flavor travels straight down in a crock pot.

Thanks mummiedearest.
Does the chicken get super mushy from cooking for 18 hours?

it'll fall off the bones, but that's standard for crock pot chicken overnight. the rice will be mushy too, but no one's ever complained about that around here, guests included.

If you want it to be soft but slightly less mushy, lightly coat the pieces in flour and brown them on all sides.
I prefer wild rice for the crock pot, it has mor of a texture. Wheatberries are also good.
