How many people here have legally changed their last name after getting married.
If you didn't, why not?

Me! Never wanted to! I don't like the whole concept. I'm me. I am who I am.

I changed my last name to my husbands last name. But I made my maiden name my legal middle name.

I did not change my name. It's been my name my whole life, it's part of my identity, and I didn't see any compelling reason to change it, so I didn't.

I agree. It's also a lot of work.

In NY it's not a lot of work at all. Took me an hour from start to finish (including travel time) to change my social security. The other documents I did as needed, or when they expired.

What about professional licensing? Insurance ? Banking and investments? Etx etx. I had been working for 10+ years and owned property when I married. I didn't change my name on philosophical reasons but practically, I suspected it would take more than an hour.

There is no way I would want to not bear my husband's name. I'm so happy to be married lol and I want to share my kids' name too. I don't want people to assume divorce. c'v!

when I was married I only ever got around to changing my name on my drivers licenses, bc it needed renewal anyways. then I got divorced and had to change it back.... next time around, I guess, I'll just see what happens.
honestly though, I see nothing wrong with legally/professionally being known as ms. maiden name, and socially etc being known as mrs. married name

Did not change my name. One of my sisters has a hyphenated last name and one used our family name as her middle name. When she answers the phone at work, for example, she says, "This is Emily Strauss Ginsberg." (Not real name)
