I find the best deals on flyfrontier.com. I don't know where you are flying to/from, but they often have deals for $29 or $39 tickets. Check them out!

I usually use Kayak as the best aggregator of all available flights, except for Southwest, which I check separately.

https://matrix.itasoftware.com/

It only gives you prices and itineraries. You cannot purchase directly from them.

you can sometimes get very cheap from Spirit, but only if you don't take luggage or carry-ons. Watch on for those add on fees because they can make a regular priced ticket much more expensive.

I believe matrix runs on the same database as google.com/flights
Its a great way to find good prices on different dates.

Someone once told me in jest that Spirit charges you for the air you breath on the plane, its not included in the ticket... so they are cheap, but only if you take just a personal item. And they even charge to print the boarding pass for you...

I also have heard that tickets are cheapest to book on Tuesdays. So look today rather than tomorrow:)

Check out skyscanner.com, then check into the airline(s) recommended directly. Good luck!

Matrix is good though from my own experience actual tickets that match your itinerary are often unavailable or available at much higher prices, so a bit frustrating.

Availability of cheap tickets depend on what discount airlines fly the routes, but I'd say go check their websites directly. Discount airlines I can think of are JetBlue, Southwest, Frontier Airlines, Canada Jet, Spirit Airlines, Virgin America, Allegiant.

See if you can fly with carry-on luggage only, and usually mid-week flights tend to be less expensive.
