DS is turning 2 in a few weeks. Dh really wants to flip him forward. I want to wait at least another 6 months. It may be fine to turn over at 2 but that's really the minimum, and what does it cost us to wait a little longer in the name of safety. Dh thinks that because the consensus is 2 is ok, there's no discussion to be had, he is annoyed with the rearfacing seat and wants to be done with it already. Does anyone have good articles I can show him about why we should go beyond the bare minimum in this matter?

Why does a rear facing seat bother him so much?

I don't think it has anything to do with age. Children should stay in rear facing for as long as possible, until they reach the height and weight max for their car seats. I would love if my daughter could have stayed in rear facing longer, but she reached the maximum height before she was even 2 years old. None of the recommendations say they should move at 2 years. They mostly say 1-3 years, or around 2 years old, because that is when most kids reach the height/weight limit. It is very dependent on your specific kid and specific seat.
Having said that, the superior safety of rear facing is not even a question and "should not be a discussion," as he calls it. Here are some webpages that might help...

Some of my kids got car sick when they were rear facing, in the days when the recommendation was 1 year or 20 lbs. Now I've heard 2 years AND 20 lbs. My last was the first of my kids that was actually rear facing until 2. I turned her seat around on her birthday and she is much happier just to be able to see where she is going now!
