I've noticed that my now 3 year old has a tongue tie that only affects his speech in the form of a lisp, otherwise his speech and language are probably above age expectations. What are my options? My pediatrician has taken the "wait and see" approach but now he's too old to "just have it snipped" in the pediatrician's office. Should I have him evaluated for speech?

Why not? An evaluation can't hurt. As an SLP I strongly encourage working on the lisp as young as possible. If your child has a decent range of motion with his tongue and the only thing that is being affected is his lisp, then its possible the lisp can be remediated without snipping the tongue tie. But either way, if he has a real lisp he should be evaluated and treated.
