My son just turned 3 and has not yet been officially diagnosed with apraxia although his speech therapist and all other doctors we have met with strongly believe that this is his problem. We just went for another speech eval so hopefully will have better answers soon. Has anyone had any experience with using an ipad to help with the speech? His therapist is pushing it but since we don't even have an ipad in the house right now I am a little hesitant. Also if he becomes dependent on it, what will happen on SHabbos and Yom tov? Right now he is making slow but steady progress in speech. He has about 30-35 "words" (that I understand but not everyone else would). His therapist uses a lot of the Kaufman method. He is a very happy child and does not usually get frustrated when we don't understand him. What would you recommend?

my son was tentatively diagnosed before 18 months- they all said they aren't allowed to diagnose him till he is 2-2.5. We used sign language. His therapist used PROMPT and some other methods. We where thinking of going to Michigan to Kaufman's summer APAXIA clinic but by that time we decided he made enough progress and basically outgrew the intensive therapy need. He got tubes, glasses, saw a developmental pediatrician and a whole bunch of other specialists and B"H has come a long way. Speech 2x30, special ed 2x30, 5 days a week in a center based EI, 1x30 OT- could have used more of that. Once he aged out of EI I kept him in a special ed class for another year since most people didn't understand his emerging speech, he got speech and ot 2x30 each. Now I mainstreamed him. His teachers say he is on the quiet side but talks clearly when he needs something or answers questions, at home sometimes it takes him a while to get his sentence out but he knows what he wants to say. I'm still working on transferring his therapy so he hasn't had OT and SPeech since mid August and we can tell.

My son also had some swallowing issues which they only discovered at 2.5. I am still upset that we didn't catch it way earlier.
