My DS will be heading to Israel for a year, IYH. He has cell phone through Verizon. What recommendations for cell service in Israel or using his American phone through some program, app or service? I think he will have to give up his Verizon plan because it is too expensive for international coverage but I could be wrong.

He should definitely get an Israeli plan. They all offer international calling for a little bit extra a month. Something like 10-20 shekels extra I think. I hear Golan has a good plan.

GolanTelecom. They provide a SIM you just need a compatible phone (ie unlocked). They have an English website and offer service of pricing your bills in English. They different plans ranging from 10-100 sh per month depending on what he needs...including a plan w unlimited calls to the US
