I'm just coming from the doctor. He claims his chest is clear. I asked him if it's normal that he becomes sick so often and wheezes he said that it's normal for kids to get alot of viruses and colds and some kids are more prone to wheezing and they usually outgrow it. Basically I went to the doctor for nothing. He doesn't find it necessary to refer me for blood tests and x-rays which he doesn't do in his office. This was the frum doctor not my pediatrician.
His color is better but still looks pale and gets a blueish ting when he cries

You need to push for the blood work and chest scan. Schedule an appointment ASAP with a pulmonologist if this is what is going on with your regular two doctors. This could be really serious.

Why aren't you taking him to your pediatrician? Did the physician check his oxygen levels?

Good point, MagentaYenta, whenever my kids presented with suspected breathing problems such as wheezing they always do the oximeter. If his face is turning blue that sounds like it could be low oxygen, though I wouldn't know.

If you go to a doctor because you are concerned and they say you don't need testing, you have every right to say "I want this test for my peace of mind. Please write a referral and I will take it to the radiology/blood lab/immunologist/pulmonologist/whatever." Chest clear means there's probably no pneumonia, which is a good thing, but that doesn't mean there's no concern about the wheezing. If all the doctors are 1000% sure there is nothing in the chest, so fine skip the xray, but go to an asthma specialist or something to troubleshoot the wheezing.

I'm glad to hear his color is better for now but still worried about the recurring nature of the problem.

I went to a very top diagnostician doctor who had an amazing name.
So I told him "Finally I get to meet the famous doctor...e/o says you are so good at diagnosing.."
He told me, "You know why I am always right? Because I ALWAYS listen to the mother!"

Trust your instincts.
NOt to scare you but if he's not gaining well and you are worried...don't settle for less. Do blood work, x ray...and ask doctor what to do about weight gain. Maybe need new dr?

Op take someone with you for support. I said in an earlier post to trust your instincts as well. Your doctor is only seeing a snapshot of your child; you are with him 24/7. Maybe take him to a walk in clinic where you can just ask for an X-ray without having to get into a power struggle with the doctor?

Op u are a first time mother as you said in one of your posts. Not your fault that you don't know what is normal and/or expected. Sounds like your son needs more medical care and direction than he's getting from your doctor and of course you trust your doctor right ??

go back to doctor or even emerg and take someone with you. Ie your mom, dh, or even a friend. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!!! You are the mom!!! I am talking from experience. Be firm.

How you're baby doing? Please find a new ped.
The job of the pediatrician is to help you raise a healthy child. If he isn't helpful and doesn't take your concerns seriously when you come to him with as sick child you need to find someone else.

My first reaction was that he sounds like he's having allergic reactions that are being misdiagnosed as a virus. Even if he is getting a virus that often, it could be triggered by food allergies. Please see a competent allergist who will test your child for all foods.

Also try stopping ALL dairy, including yogurt. One of my kids comes down with congestion, ear infection and wheezing within a day of consuming milk or excessive sugar, without having an allergy.

If doctor says his lungs are clear I would not push for X-rays or run to ER but I would demand blood work. He might simply be anemic ...low iron ...low oxygen supply....pale,low appetite, purplish ...and yes whizzing since his body trying to force him to breath in more for adequate oxygen supply are all sumptoms of low iron Through complete blood test u can check so much even allergies. That should be first step. Refuah shelema

Sometimes when ppl have walking pneumonia, the chest sounds clear when u listen. That's why walking pneumonia is dangerous.

I usually take my ds to his pediatrician however I decided this time to use a local frum doctor that I use sometimes because I wanted another opinion. My pediatrician doesn't seem to be very attentive of his symptoms and always says it's a virus. .. or that he can't assess his chest cuz he's crying. I do think I need to find a new pediatrician. Its not so simple to get a new doctor where I live. Most doctors don't take new patients any more. They only take their patients children.... so I have to be lucky to find

He shouldn't be loosing weight! Even if the Dr disregards every other symptom you told him about, the weight loss requires looking into. Even if the Dr says he is just a picky eater, he should have concerns about it.

When my ds lost even one pound, the Dr was concerned. BH it was nothing, but they still watched him more carefully.

Go to your Regular Dr. Or find another one, but don't go to the frum Dr even though it's more convieniant.

I'm not a dr but speaking from my personal experience. I wasn't happy with how my dd's "breathing issues" were being handled by the pedi, (once resulting in a hatzalah call and ER visit) so I brought her to an allergist.

This may seem obvious but for some reason, I guess I wasn't so familiar with asthma issues prior, and I didn't realize that this is the allergists' specialty as well (called immunology). He diagnosed her with asthma and put her on a regimen of nebulizer treatments and close monitoring, and b"H we've kept it under control.

Refuah shleima!

ETA to clarify, the hatzolah call and ER visit happened 2 hrs after leaving the pediatrician's office, with him saying she'd be fine :/
