DH has been experiencing sever pain in his big toe. He went to a podiatrist who told him his only option is surgery. DH is very nervous and asked me to find out more info. He is scared that he will be stuck with a cast and crutches for z couple of weeks. He is sales man. He can't afford staying home for to long. In addition I am looking for a good surgian in NY. Please let md know if you know anything about this type of surgery. And all info of recovery is appreciate it. What an I supposed to tell DH to calm him down. I fel do bad for him. Sad

Is this surgery to remove bone spurs? Or to fuse the joint?

They should be able to help you find a good surgeon. And once you can talk to a surgeon, you can get answers to all your questions, and maybe it won't be so scary any more.

That being said, do not do surgery before going for a second opinion, please.

I had that surgery suggested to me as an option regarding my own big toe issues, and arthritis in my hands. I refused because it would impact my walking and would likely impact my spinal and hip alignment. The hand surgery was completely off the table at the time since I was still working, although I'm considering having one thumb fused. The repercussions of the toe surgery could seriously impact the quality of my life because of gait and walking changes.

I would suggest that your husband can some folks who have had the surgery and discuss it with them.
