We will be away for a month and the house will be empty. In order to save on electricity I'm thinking of turning off the fridge, will it smell awful? Do I leave the door open or closed? I remember when my fridge was broken and it was off that it smelled dreadful.
Should I turn off the boiler too?
Any other electricity saving ideas appreciated.

I would not turn off my fridge if I was going away for a month. How much can u possibly save? Ten dollars? There r so many things that I would have to throw out from my fridge and replace when I got home that it would b cheaper to keep it on w my items in the fridge.
Items such as butter, lemon juice, chrein, all the bottles of BBQ sauces and other sauces, mayo, yeast and many other items that have a much longer life span than the month away.

I also would not unplug fridge for same reasons listed above.
I would unplug many small appliances (toaster, urn, coffee maker, stereo system, etc).
[If it is cold were you live do not turn off the heat while you are away, just have the house maintain a low constant temperature]
