NYC is a close drive. Not the best day with traffic, but you can also take public transportation.

Ferry to NY, passaic waterfalls, shopping in short hills or Paramus malls, lambert castle, Montclair art museum, liberty state park, northlandz doll and train museum, liberty science center, NJ state museum.
