I have a clear plastic tablecloth that I use to protect my white Shabbos tablecloth (the heavy thick kind, not the disposables). I wash it after Shabbos with some soap and a damp cloth, but it has a sort of grimy buildup at this point that I'd really like to clean.
Is it safe to put this sort of tablecloth in the washing machine (cold, gentle cycle, hang dry)? Or will it tear or otherwise destroy it? The tablecloth didn't come with any form of care instructions.

Try to clean the plastic tablecloth with widex. It does a pretty good job.
I personally gave them up and went to heavy duty disposables.

I take it that you never tried washing it in the machine?

I did once. The cold rinse cycle can make the tablecloth crack. The plastic becomes clean, but still needs to get wiped down. Be careful because it has alot of water stuck inside it.
