We'd like to name our girl after my grandmother but are not keen on Frieda. What names are similar in meaning to Frieda?

As far as I know, the German based name Frieda means "happiness", and the Polish based name Frieda means "peace".
That gives you lots of options:
Rina.
Simcha.
Gila, etc, for Happiness.
Shlomit.
Shulamt.
Shlomo.
Shalom, etc, for Peace.
