My vote is for a fitbit- who wouldn't want a fitbit?!
A- They're super small for your luggage
B- If they exercise all the time and walk its fun to know how much you actually walked etc. AND if someone is overweight-like me, then it will get them motivated to walk more...

Just a suggestion.

Ok, I would be offended if someone bought me a fitbit! I would be like, what are you trying to tell me? Wink
Kind of like I felt when someone gave me a book on having a positive attitude...

American cheese. Meat and roasts. Cookbooks are cheaper in America.

I agree with toys or games for kids. The options are so limited/expensive here that chances are whatever you get them they won't already have actually.

Ask them what they need. I'm sure they have a list.

IMO that would the nicest/most helpful thing to do. But I get that not everyone/every family is comfortable with that.

Books, if you can spare the weight and space in your luggage.

If they have an Amazon wish list, buy some English language books for them. They are really expensive here, and in some places the English section of the library is very limited.

Can you tell us more about the family, kids, etc. so we can give you more specific ideas?

I second this. Books are heavy so even if family comes in I use the weight on other things. Books would be a double gift -- the book itself and the fact that it's brought.

(Books can be cookbooks too, BTW.)

You can buy mozzarella cheese in Israel.
OP I suggest buying them the type of gift you would buy for their birthdays. Maybe perfume or some kind of fancy lotion set for her, a nice shirt and tie for him toys for the kids. If you don't want to buy so many gifts I think fancy towels or a nice tablecloth is always appreciated. Any gift you would get an American host would be suitable.

Not cookbooks. I for one dont like using American cookbooks here. The ingredients, the measurements arent local.
And not deodorant . ....we do have deodorant here, I dont know how much of a gift it is. Even if it's more expensive here, it's still not a gift item.
English books are great, especially for kids. Quality toys.

Echoing what others have said.
Asking is best. You can get almost anything here now, in some form or fashion, but people sometimes have a soft spot for a certain specific product that they miss. It's hard to guess or assume what that might be w/o asking.

I absolutely love those ice cream scoop cookie droppers. I haven't seen them here anywhere. Small and useful.
Corn on the cob is in Rami Levi all the time.
