I need a new meat crockpot, to use on shabbos and during the week. I saw a link for this Hamilton Beach 8 qt http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EZI26C8/

Do you think it's a good value? If not, what do you recommend? Some reviewers say that it doesn't really hold 8 qts.

I'd like to spend $30 or less, if possible.

Thank you.

Yes it's a good value.
If Hamilton Beach calls it 8 quarts that's probably accurate.

Make sure that it doesn't automatically shut off after a certain amount of hours. I like my simple manual crock pot (crock pot brand) which does not shut off by itself.

This one is perfect for shabbos as it has a manual switch and no shut off. I have the same in 4 quart and love it.
I actually prefer the oval like this as it works better for some of the foods I make. And I love the crock as I find it cooks better and more even than the rectangular base heating element that works with the metal rectangular pot on top.

having a temperature dial would be mandatory for me ... low/med/high doesn't have the same cooking value as 250° 300° 350° 400°

chocolate amother, thanks so much for making me smile. My mother would always refer to the slow cooker as a 'crackpot'. It was so cute and made us smile each time.
