I am looking for ideas on how I can store board games and puzzles with big and small pieces in a closet or storage cabinet without using so many bins and boxes.

One way to store puzzles is to use Ziploc bags. Cut out the picture on the front of the puzzle box and store it in the bag along with the pieces. You can then put many puzzles into one bin or large plastic container. Ziploc bags are great for small game pieces too.

I feel like we had this conversation not long ago... maybe do some searches and see what comes up. It might have been inside a thread about general playroom/toy organization.
for games that have a big board and little pieces we have a pile of boards and then a separate box with all the pieces, each game's pieces in a separate baggie. It would be even neater if I used little storage boxes but I'm too cheap for that.
Puzzles we do like Rubber Ducky.

Board games stack up nicely in their original boxes...is that a problem?
