syringes: colored jello inn plastic syringes
cotton: cotton candy in med cups or white marshmallows
stethoscopes: licorice strings with some large black or gray candy circle (or aluminum foil covered candy) -- or draw steth's on top of cookies or cupcakes with icing/gel pens.
alcohol: for the grown-ups, a mini-bottle of vodka
band-aids: dried fruit rolls cut into "band-aids"
thermometers: pretzel logs dipped in white icing; red bars iced across
for nausea: ginger-ale and crackers
gauze pads: you can try rolling marshmallows into thin, flat squares and stacked, or into thin strips for a small gauze roll (you can also make your own marshmallows) -- or just use the fruit roll-ups and label it "colored gauze roll"
flat (not the "ball") lollipops - the old-fashioned standard treat young patients got after a visit to the dr!
container ideas:
nurse caps for "baskets" -- or old fashioned cotton and swab containers (glass with metal lids)
weekly or monthly medication dispensers to fill with tiny goodies
"IV bags" to fill with a beverage, along with a "dinner tray"
disposable vinyl gloves, eye chart print-outs, tongue depressors, clipboards,... are pretty standard items - if you can use them in some way.
balloons to blow up (blood pressure)
it's dangerous to pretend candy is medicine, so please be careful if doing so by explaining to children that medicine is not candy; you are using candy only to pretend.
have fun preparing!

NO.
Medicine is not candy and don't ever let your kids think differently.

You could do an apple theme - with a note "an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Add an apple, some apple cake, apple flavored candy, Apple juice.
