My baby (7 months) had fever and a bad cold for two days. Brought her to Dr who said she has ear infection and prescribed antibiotics. She checked her lungs, which were clear, but she said she was worried about how bad the congestion and coughing are so she prescribed Zyrtec(!!).
Am I the only one that thinks that's unnecessary? She's nursing normally so she's not that congested, her cough isn't terrible... and anyways isn't Zyrtec for allergies? Anyone ever had this prescribed for a cold? Does it work? (I'm holding off on giving it to her now as I don't like the side effects of the medication, but if her cold gets worse or lasts I'll try it if it helps...)

And did you find that it worked? Was it just a common cold, or was it worse or lasting a long time?
