Hi, I am looking for help with my 5 year old son. I suspect a sensory processing disorder coupled with other stuff- speech related since he has a hard time following directions. He is socially challenged too.
I'm so frustrated bc an appointment with a developmental pediatrician which I was waiting for months for - gave me nothing.- the doctor didn't even talk to him never mind engage him so that he could understand him. The doctor just offered an ADHD diagnosis to get services.
I have nothing against an ADHD diagnosis but he didn't even talk to my child or try to understand him.

Are there any doctors or specialists or anything - that can help me help my son in a real way of understanding him.
I'm applying for services and a great OT recommendation in Rockland would be really appreciated as well as any other info.
thanks

The Out of Sync Child is a great book to start with.

Google it. It's available on Amazon.com for around $10.

Sorry I don't have a recommendation but kudos to you for your persistence in this. As someone who's sensory issues when undiagnosed and untreated for most of my life, getting to the bottom of this early will be great for your child.
Definitely continue in your quest for a good OT. In the meantime, you can also google the Highly Sensitive Person (there's an at-home test for this) and check out the book the Highly Sensitive Child.
I know there is a difference between sensory processing disorder and high sensitivity, but I do think there's some overlap. hatzlacha!

Thanks CNc - I am going to reread that it's been a while.
And mother seashell - any advice as to how you personally overcame and what worked and didn't would be so appreciated.
You can pm me if you want.
I definitely think he got these issues from me so I personally can benefit too
Thanks
