We are a young couple with 2 small children. An older couple that we are close with (Their youngest is about 10) invited us for a meal on shabbos. She had just sent me a message this morning asking me to daven for her husband who just had surgery. She said all her kids will be away and they would really love to have us. I just don't feel it would be right. What do you all think?

Trust your gut. If you think it won't work well then let her know you'd love a raincheck when her children are home. You can ask if there's anything she or her husband during the post surgery period.

What are you concerned about? Do you count on the older children to entertain your little ones?

Go; it could be a big chesed to help distract him from thinking about pain. But don't stay too long, insist on bringing food, and maybe one of you take kid or kids out if needed.

I sent her a message saying how uncomfortable we are accepting... She called me and said we really want you guys , it will distract him etc. so we are taking your advice and going, we are bringing food and we will try to make it short and take the kids out if necessary. Thanks guys
