When we got married my mil gave us her cloth sofa. It WAS white.
Now we have a black leather sofa.
So, cloth you'll be less sad WHEN it's killed. But leather is much harder to kill.

I don't like the feel of leather against the skin, especially in summer.
It also is more limiting in terms of color choices.
Finally, a rip or puncture in the leather is more difficult to mend than a fabric sofa, especially if the fabric sofa has removeable slip covers.

Fabric with machine-washable slipcovers, for all the reasons Etky listed. Not in a super-light color.
