Hello everyone!

A relative of mine will IM"H be making a chasunah soon, and is looking for suggestions for cheap places to do a wedding. The guest list looks like it"ll be in the range of 250 people (give or take), and she's looking preferably for a shul to use for the chupah, with the shul's simcha room/party room/basement to be used for the meal. This knocks out a lot of the better known places, either because they require a higher minimum number of guests, or because it's a hall and they just swap the one room over for both the chupah and the seudah.

Location wise, the family is NYC based, so something either in NYC or fairly close by would be best. Decor wise, she'd like something"pretty", though other interested parties are probably going to want the place to be a bit more on the dressed up side (carpets? chandeliers?).

Suggestions, anyone? Thanks!

I was married there. Not cheap, or at least it wasn't 15+ years ago.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I think they'd consider a hall at this point in a pinch, and the guest list is looking closer to 300 now.

Thanks

(If you know what the price is per person/couple, please include that. Thanks)

They're known more for second weddings and bar mitzvahs but it may work.

Try the Renaissance in BP. It's on the smaller side, good for 150 - 250 people. Easy to work with and good food. Used to start at 35pp, but that was a few years ago. Also try the shul in Yonkers, I can't remember the name.

I don't know the actual price, but I suspect Kingsway Jewish Center may be less than others.

You might want start with a caterer. If you know of a lower-priced-but-good caterer, they will show you suitable properties where they work.

Is their own shul not big or nice enough? By far the most economical event I have planned for my family was at our own shul. That's one of the privileges of membership.
