Older child (bigger class and more social life) prepared 3 for chosen friends, 3 extras in case different friends come over here, and will be "contributing" to a family one for a friend whose whole family are (is?) our friends.
Younger child prepared 2 for chosen friends and 2 extras in case someone comes over unexpectedly.
Myself I still haven't firmly decided what I'm going to make... I figure about 4 full MM, a few small packets of hamentaschen and maybe something else if I can figure out what, and 2 for teachers whose class mothers didn't get their acts together to do a group one. One teacher is done because I received an early MM full of things we're allergic to, and I'm hoping something else of the same nature comes up in time for the other one Tongue Out
Then I need two for a child's therapists, by tomorrow, help! I better get moving... I don't know why I have not yet learned to think about these things in advance.

48 adults (includes my kids' teachers, plus 5 spare for unexpected visitors) and each kid got to make up to 10 each... so yah, it's a lot. But they aren't very fancy or expensive (iced coffee plus homebaked cinnamon buns, adult version) and I use the same containers every year so it's not that much work.

This is Brooklyn

Mazal tov! I was in the same situation one year. I bought small boxes of good chocolates (about 4 pieces in them) and stuck a little bottle of liquor on top. Zero work and approximately the same $$ as a box filled with my regular m"m.

As for op's question, I sent 45-50 adults - teachers, neighbors, family, friends - and then about 10 for each of my children. By now they're in their early teens and basically take care of their m"m on their own as well as their younger siblings, so that got a bit easier for me.

I was going to make 12, but made 10. So far gave out 1. We don't go around, just give who comes We're having two guests later, so that's another 2. I don't care to give them because we're feeding them, but my dh does. Other years we needed more than 10 and some years fewer.

That's a lot in my book. Then again it depends how many kids u have and what the norm is...
I allow about 5 per child. The they can return something to whoever gives them. My older dd (19) gave 10 but she baked cupcakes herself...
