There was a back and forth this weekend between Ted Cruz and NYC police commissioner Bill Bratton. In response to the recent terrorist attack Cruz called for more surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods. Bratton told Cruz to "shut up" and said that Cruz doesn't know anything about fighting terrorism. Is it stereotyping or profiling to put added security in neighborhoods that it would seem are more likely to be involved in terrorism? I don't see that argument at all. If NYC put an equal amount of police in neighborhoods like Boro park and Flatbush as they did in certain areas in the Bronx and Queens, wouldn't that be just plain dumb? Does the fact that those bad neighborhoods are predominately black and Hispanic make make the decision to have more police patrolling racist? What's the argument not to monitor Muslim neighborhoods? I think we can say with virtually 100% certainty that when the next terrorist attack happens (and sadly it will) that it will almost definitely be committed by a fanatical Muslim. Why not watch this group more carefully?
