Hi, looking to get my teenager a phone. Don't want to commit to plan. Can someone recommend the most reasonable place for phone and service. Thanks in advance.

I had an AT&T GoPhone for $100/year (10 cents a minute or 20 cents a text, so 1000 minutes with no texting, or however you'd like to do the math). No data.
My contract is up tomorrow and so I just got FreedomPop. I bought a used phone from livingsocial and I have free service (I think for a year) with 200 minutes a month, 500 texts, and 500 MB of data. It's using VoIP technology I believe, so I have it connected to wifi when possible, otherwise it uses the data allotment for calls. And additional 3.99/month is available for voicemail, but I opted out. They have a 29.99/month unlimited plan as well, but I don't need that. I don't believe that is a contract.
Ting has some sort of pricing scheme where you can pay like $7 a month I heard, and then raise it in a month you need more usage? I didn't really look into it.

My suggestion is to go to a best buy and tell them exactly what kind of plan you are looking for. They can sell you just abt any plan plus a phone. And really know all the different features
