Is there an inyan to paint a newly purchased home if aino yehudim lived in it before?
I've recently heard some shiur that mentioned you have to paint a house before moving in but not sure if it was just an opinion, advice or whatever. Please enlighten me.
Oh, and no sarcasm please, I'm not looking for ppl to call it mishegas

I never heard of that minhag, but think most people will re-paint to freshen up. You don't want to move into an old looking dunky apt. Everyone to their cup of tea.

Same. Never heard of it, but even if it looks brand new, I would repaint.

To those who would paint an otherwise ok painted house: why would you do that when it may cost quite a pretty penny?

What does painting have to do with Jews or non-Jews?
Why would people paint if the paint looks fine? Painting a whole house is expensive!
To answer the OP, no I've never heard of this.

I think s/o on here references a short story by Etka Gittel Schwartz about a painter who said Tehillim as he painted and davened for the family who lived in the house...

Never heard of it. I would only paint if it looked bad and I had the extra money. I don't care who lived there before me- if they smoked etc I would be more likely to paint as it stays in the paint.... But then again I may not move there to begin with.

If you do paint, remember to leave an amah by an amah unpainted.

Zecher l'churban.
To leave an area opposite the front door unfinished. Since hashem's house is in ruins, how can we live in a complete perfect house? It should be a square amah, some people even scrape away the paint to expose the bare wall. You may not be chayuv if you are renting.
I could imagine someone being told to paint when moving to a new house in order to not paint that area.
There are halachos about this, ask a Rav.

Yes as far as I know. Some people are afraid that it will look religiously showy, so they have the unpainted area in an inconspicuous spot.

It should be, but many people don't know of the halachos.

Of course leaving a patch zecher l'chorban is a real thing!
Back to OP's question, if it's in perfect condition why the need to repaint?

Back to OP's question, if it's in perfect condition why the need to repaint? | I never said it wasnt a real thing. I had just never heard of anyone doing that outside of Israel. I was asking if it was actually a thing that people do out of Eretz Yisrael.

We asked when we moved because u had vaguely heard of the concept before. We were told that it's preferable to paint the walls but if we couldn't financially manage it, we could leave it for now. We were told to change as many surfaces as we could- we recarpeted and fixed the hardwood.
I don't think it's a halachic concept, I assume it's more kabbalistic.
