I LOVE Marquez. I read 100 years of solitude in high school, but on my own, not as part of the curriculum. I also hated Things Fall Apart, but it is pretty standard in American high schools. I went to an MO school, so yeshiva but not sheltered. We read a lot of things that wouldn't fly in a BY.
