We just bought a new house, and I took my kids to allow each to choose his/her own Bayit, as each now has a bedroom. My son saw a case that does have a Shin, but also has pictures of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He really wants it, but I don't know if it is allowed and/or appropriate to have him kissing this picture every time he walks in his room.

There are plenty of cases with nature scenes, so maybe it is ok. But I wanted to check. Does anyone here have an opinion?

I don't know the answer

however, when you said they could choose - you cannot limit it ...

personally I think if it makes them happy and reminds them to do the mitzva - why not a ninja ... just like a yarmulke there are no halochos of what kind

Thanks! I was thinking that the kissing thing could make a difference. I feel better now.

A bayit for something as holy as a mezuza shouldn't have something secular on it. My humble opinion. A yarmulka doesn't hold the Shem Hashem. The bayit does. I think there's a fine line between them. I wouldn't do it.

That is what I was worried about. A head covering can be a baseball cap. A mezuza us on the part with a tallit.

Actually more holy, I think. At least the parchment is.
