I want to overnight in Washington DC , make it a 2 day trip
any cheap motels you can recommend, in Washington or close by

Washington DC isn't known for cheap motels, and almost every hotel also charges a substantial fee for overnight parking. You're probably better off looking in a suburb like Silver Spring, Rockville, or Potomac, or Arlington on the VA side, and trying to take mass transit into town, which will also save you the hassle of parking. You could also try Priceline or Hotel Tonight.

I just stayed in a holiday inn in Arlington. Getting into DC was quick; the hotel was very nice and clean.
