I know I'm probably going to take him to the doctor tomorrow but just looking for advice and/or experience.

Ds 11 missed a step at some soft play last week. He's since then been complaining on and off that his foot hurts, the ankle area. I looked out for swelling which didn't occur. He walks around properly. Sometimes he doesn't complain, especially if something exciting happens (meeting friends) and sometimes he says that it really hurts him. He pointed the pain to me a few times and always on the same place. Above his ankle(like 2 inches), outer side.
I gave him painkillers a few times. Dunno how much that helped
There's still no swelling at all, almost a week later.
Tomorrow school starts so I'm a bit concerned about sending him before it gets checked out. He also has a bad cold.

I would definitely get checked out, sooner than later, esp since still hurting a weeke later. Sounds like an x-Ray may be needed, make sure nothing broken.

Hope your sons gets well soon!

Definitely get it checked. This happened to my husband when he was a younger teen and he wasn't taken seriously because there was no swelling or any other indication, and it was in fact a fracture.

We've had several broken bones in our family that never swelled.

It's possible it's a hairline fracture that gives intermittent pain depending on use. Ds would then get a cast, a boot or an aircast, depending on his level of activity. Or not. You lose nothing but time by checking.

My dd hurt her leg in the same exact spot. We went on a fun Chol HaMoed trip to the ER. It was a bad sprain and they gave her a boot to wear. But hers was very swollen and bruised and she wasn't walking on it much.

Thanks for asking
Yes I did take him to the doctor this morning. He was sent for xrays. It's bh not broken but there's swelling on the ligamets. He got crutches and has to rest his foot for a few days now. Giving him Motrin for the pain and swelling.
He's bh managing with the crutches and he can hopefully go to school tomorrow

I would suggest a scooter for short term?
How long will he need to use the crutches?

Why do people have to say negativity.
Try to help rather thank asking dumb questions.

I waited because he was walking around properly all the time and we didn't see any swelling. Here and there he complained and since yesterday it's been hurting him more
I'm happy I got it checked out today

It's not a sprain. Doctor said swollen ligaments.

He has to rest his foot for 2-3 days and will feel the pain going away.

In the meantime I'm applying ice packs and giving him Motrin

He's bh in an amazing mood. His friends are calling and his teacher came by to visit

OP, this reminds me of the time my sister sent her two year old to me when she gave birth and my niece just started crying out of the blue while jumping on a trampoline. I didnt see anything out of the ordinary and she didnt bang herself or anything. Three days later I noticed that she was avoiding using her hand to eat an ices and just kept using her other hand for everything, her arm and no swelling at all, but as on the third day the color of her arm started having a grayish tinge, that's when I got really concerned and went to an orthopedist ...turns out she broke her arm in TWO places!!!!! and I felt like TWO cents!!!! But Baruch Hashem all worked out well...refuah sheleimah
