Hi,
We have decided to spend a year in Israel starting in June. My husband will be in Yeshiva and I will be taking a few classes as well. I am looking for day care for my 3 year old. I don't want a Nanny. He needs structured time with other kids his age, otherwise he'll be very bored. Are there any Day care centers, or preschools near the city center? (that's where we'll be staying) Private is ok too.
Thanks!

Daycare from age 3 is free in Israel (not sure how it works if you are not a citizen). Check the municipality's website for a list of gans in your area.

You don't have to be a citizen to register for gan, but you need a visa. There are English Ganim for 3 year Olds in certain neighborhoods with enough demand.

Daycare is not free, ever, and a 3 year old is no longer eligible for daycare. A 3 year old goes to "pre-pre-K" or nursery school. 7:30-2 (ish; may vary by municipality). And as far as I know a non-citizen pays for this, though a citizen does not.
I don't know if there's anything in Mamilla, but I'm sure there are some in the Old City.

So how do I go about finding a Gan? I tried the municipality website but it was not much help...

I was using the terms "gan" and daycare interchangeably. The OP has a 3-year-old and needs someplace with a structured program to care for her child while she works. She is calling it "daycare," but she's basically talking about "gan," which is free above age 3 (at least for citizens).

Op here again
Thanks for all the advice!
So from what I understand, there is no Day care in Israel during June or July. Where would I find that? I don't mind paying extra for private Gan but I definitely am not interested in a nanny or a mishpachton.
Are there private day care centers open during the Summer?
Thanks!

There are no gans from July-August. Many gans run kaytanot in the summer.

You say your DH will be in yeshiva. Perhaps the administration there can help find you a gan where other families from the yeshiva send their children. There must be someone there who helps newcomers get settled. Try reaching out to them.
