There is an inyan that you can't permanently close up doors or windows (correct?).

What do people do when they have to change room layout and close off an opening between rooms, like change it into a solid wall?

Thanks

Not everyone agrees you can't do it. Those who do will have the contractor leave/put a small hole through from inside to outside, to let the sheidim out (which is the reason, under this inyan). Tall to your rav about it.

Interior walls are no big deal - your contractor can leave a pinhole.

We close up a doorway to the outside and that was harder except that we put the exhaust vent for our cooktop so that counted.

It may only be exterior walls, definitely ask. I've heard of people leaving a very small "straw" to hold the place going through to the outside. Frum contractors will be very familiar with it.
