Chicken pox is really one of the no-big-deal diseases.
20 years ago, no one was vaccinated for it.

my kids missed it. any party still going on? btw I hope pesek zman is being sarcastic...
And btw "Students cannot return until they are vaccinated, or
until the outbreak is declared over, even if they have an approved religious or
medical exemption to varicella immunization." this is sooo not true.

chicken pox had all but been eradicated because of the vaccine, but because of pockets of people not vaccinating (our people!) it's back.
Why would I employ sarcasm about this?

We're in Boro park. My kids just got over the chicken pox.
They picked it up in monsey over pesach.
The good thing is that now they're immune for life. One of my kids was vaccinated for varicella but the vaccine did nothing to protect him...
We had a fun family pajama week at home.
At least I know they won't be hospitalized like my cousin now, who was totally vaccinated for chicken pox and still caught it now as a teenager.
The vaccine somehow doesn't always work and when you catch it when you're older you're in trouble...
And no, I don't believe in chicken pox parties. No mother should ever intentionally bring this disease on her kids...
I think I'm done now

It wasn't a no big deal disease when I caught it at 24 and my sister at 21! We were both deathly ill.

In Europe kids don't get vaccinated against chicken pox.
It's no big deal. Ds had it when he was just 1. The spots can get quit itchy but there are so many creams and lotions to apply.
Once you get it you're immuned for life.
Getting it at an older age is a different story. Then it can get quit hard

Yes, getting it at an older age is different, but it's also very uncommon in places where the vaccine is not given. Almost everyone gets it as a kid.

May I ask, what is the fear of chicken pox? You do realize that all children lived through this normal childhood disease before the vaccine came out.

Right, because Jews are the only ones who don't vaccinate....correct me if I'm wrong, but America is one of the few countries that actually vaccinated for chicken pox.

also, I had it as a child now when my child has it and im re-exposed to it, it boosts my immunity. so its actually important for all of us that kids should get it.

before the vax, which adult wasn't immune ? anyway it reduces risk of cancer
