looking for a honest dentist. I got denied for a root canal. she says I should do a filling so the tooth will crack a little and then show more severe and then maybe insurance will approve for root canal. insurance says theres nothing really bad in my tooth but she says its really bad.
she said that the xrays didnt show how severe it is.

I dont know if I should do this. 30% of patients get denied. so my chances of denial again is there. people with worse problems in their teeth were denied a root canal. should I take the risk before I spend 800$ on root canal? does she do good work in root canal?

Please help me I am lost. I dont live here long and I dont know any other dentists. I dont know whom to trust. please help me. I am desperate. I am losing my teeth.

I had bad experience with her, and so did my kids. She insisted that I needed a lot of expensive and extensive work, some of which was possibly needed but most was unnecessary and/or impossible, which was later confirmed by several other specialists. And she was scaring me that I would ch'v lose a number of important teeth if I hadn't had that work done pronto.

On my kid though she didn't want to do stuff that was obviously necessary (think damaged tooth with a gaping hole that is missing half of the filling) because the child admitted she was not in pain. She wanted to wait till the chold would be in pain.

Some people recommend wasserman and polinsky. I went there once and got a somewhat fine consult, mostly confirming my usual dentists opinion (he's in NY so I sometimes go for checkups and cleaning locally in lakewood). They managed to miss one thing though that I had pointed out, I knew it from my regular dentist.

If I had to go locally I would probably go to dr wasserman again. He was not pushy, and pointed out stuff that really had to be done.

thanks so much for your honesty. I dont doubt I have problems with my teeth.
I would definitely go to someone for a second opinion.
how can I know if a dentist is robbing me? ask for xrays?
insurance said they wont cover, and they dont see anything serious. can it be she wants to make more money? I guess I need to ask a second opinion

so who do you recommend that is honest here in lakewood?

I don't know about her. But we use Dr Wasserman and Dr Polinsky practice. I just don't know what insurance they accept.
I'm incredibly happy with both. My DH has been using Dr Wasserman since he was a kid.

I find they do nothing unless it is necessary. (I once needed a root canal and Dr Polinsky wasn't sure and wouldn't do it until he was 100% positive even though I was begging to just do it - my xray showed nothing - it was only after numbing the tooth the pain went away, once they opened the tooth they were actually able to see the issue).

Dr wasserman is very conservative, he will do a lot to avoid unnecessary work. I think Polinsky is more aggressive.

I don't have a lot of experience but Dr. Perle moved to town recently, is a very fine person and I think you could trust him.

It might be worth it in the long run to look into getting dental insurance. The dentist that take your insurance aren't good and dental insurance is like $50 a month and it covers 80 percent of the work so if you are having a lot of problems I would go that route. In the long run you will save money because if you do a bad job it will have to be redone. So rather spend it in one year and hopefully you won't have problems with your teeth afterwards.

thanks so much estibesty. nikki-I wish I could afford what you just wrote. I have a shocking expense now, I cant even imagine I can squeeze this in. I hope between all the doctors peopl mentined here I will be matzliach.

I made an appt with encore someone on the other thread mentioned them. I'll see if they are honest. if not I can always try another dentist.

$50 a month is cheaper than $500 plus after root canal its another $1250 or closer to $1500 for a crown that is a must otherwise root canal tooth will totally crack. Ask the dentist and they will tell you that it is a must. Find out all of your expenses and then you might be surprised but insurance might be cheaper.
