My baby just got tubes put in his ears and the doctor said to put cotton balls in his ears every time he takes a bath or goes swimming.

However, I remember from when my other ds got tubes in his ears that his doctor felt it was not necessary unless the ears are being submerged in water.

If your kid had ear tubes, which were you told?

Every time?
As in for the the entire time that the tubes are in?
IIRC I was told to put cotton in for the first 10 days or so.
My kid has tubes for almost 5 years already, I can't imagine having to put cotton in every single time he takes a bath or swims.

Yes, I asked how long I have to do this and he said as long as the tubes are still in. I think I may only do it for a week or 2. IIRC, cotton balls used to be seen as necessary but aren't anymore- except for my doctor.

My child with tubes is now 8. He has had tubes since 5 (put in twice) . We don't use cotton balls. After his ears are submerged I put drops in his ears.

However, he just went swimming for the first time in a long time and his ears are killing him, I have to speak to the dr.

My doctor told me taking a bath isn't a problem, just maybe the pool. I did tubes on 3 kids.

I was told not to submerge the head in water. If the child is a swimmer I needed to get earplugs. For the bath I rinsed the hair with a cup.

My last child's tubes came out three years ago so things might have changed.

If water gets splashed in the ear it can cause infection in the tubes. BTDT.
Buy an ear band it and put it on your child every time they have a bath. Nothing happens if you forget to put it on but even the tiniest splash can make an issue.

My son had special custom ear plugs made that were to be used for baths and swimming.
