I thought the law was that any store that sells the item has to take back the bottle. So bring it back to the same store that you bought it

that is the law - but you also need a machine and most little neighborhood stores [jewish or not] will not invest or return the deposit

You do NOT need a machine! Go to customer service in any store. If they're not in compliance with the law, you're within your rights to file a complaint

You are right that I can complain but I don't want to walk in to a store with a bunch of bottles and have them turn me away
