There was an interesting show on Public Radio's Here and Now. It discussed the impact of store returns on commissioned sales people. Apparently stores like Macy's and others still have commissioned sales people. The new liberal store return policies are impacting the ability of a commissioned sales person to predict their commissions. It seems that individuals are taking advantage of the return policy and to counter store losses, Macy's will deduct earned commissions on returned merchandise that had been purchased in the past 6 months.
Sales people talked about individuals that take home several dresses to try on and then return them after the party/vacation etc. Even in the case of obviously worn merchandise Macy's will accept the return and deduct the previously earned commission from the employees pay.
If you want to listen to the show, just google Here and Now.
