My infant daughter has pubic hair. She was not born with it, but it developed when she was about 3 months old. My pediatrician said not to worry about it but it will probably turn dark by the time she's five or six. Unfortunately, I don't trust our doctor too much and have been searching for a new one.
A Google search didn't reveal anything conclusive.
Does anyone have experience with this?

Definitely go see another pediatrician, preferably a pediatric endocrinologist.

Is it fine hair like what you have on your arm? Or like adult-type? If it's fine that is pretty normal if it's coarse go to an endocrinologist.
