My daughter recently started exhibiting ocd tendencies. For example, needing to touch the wall, or a person near her, step a certain way. She said she needs to make it "even" and she can't help herself. Any ideas or recommendations for a therapist.

A friend took her 8 year old daughter to Malki Kaufman to treat her OCD. She does amazing work! Her daughter no longer does the things she used to do because of her OCD. She went weekly for 1 year and now goes about once a month.

Malki Kaufman is not a licensed mental health professional. Only a licensed mental health professional with specific training in OCD should treat OCD. OP, do yourself a favor and call Relief for a referral.

That type of behavior can sometimes be normal in a child.
Do you see this is many areas?
I definitely had a child who always needed his cereal bowl and spoon etc, positioned just so and socks fixed so the line was lined up perfectly before putting the shoe on, etc (at a younger age, though) To us he was just difficult, high strung and he outgrew it.

Mrs. Leah Trenk is very good with behavioral issues.
ETA: I don't think she's licensed. Interestingly though I've heard her recommended by two different licensed professionals, which is unusual.

Oh my god! Are you serious??? I'm so sorry that I put her name out there. I myself am a mental health professional and would never recommend using someone who isn't licensed. I'm so sorry.

We were very happy with Chana Leah Shindler at Chemed, for anxiety/ocd/phobia issues at approximately the same age.
