Since there seems to be lots of passionate Jewish magazine readers here, I would love to hear from those of you that have little kids asking you to read them the kiddie stories in mishpacha Jr. on Shabbos.
Am I the only one who thinks the Jolly Solly stories are AWFUL?
1. They have no plot most of the time
2. They involve obnoxious characters most of the time (twin brothers who fight for no reason whatsoever, cranky old man, etc)
3. They often involve some "wicked" official person (police, government inspector, sherif) who is trying to do his job and gets tricked so the kids can have their fun illegally.
What's the story? Why in the world are they published? Who thinks this is what little kids should be reading/hearing? When we grew up on the Olomeinu stories, at least the silly "babyish" Mommy's Favorite Stories had a plot and a moral to share! I love the Bear family stories. Always cute and sweet and insightful. And boy do I miss Carmeli's Grocery. I wasn't a Mishpacha subscriber in those days but always read them to the little ones when we got second hand issues. I would be thrilled if they would even just reprint them!
