I have family members who get nauseous whenever they fast. They end up throwing up multiple times. Has anyone had this and gotten (medical) advice of what could be causing this? Any tips on how to prevent this from happening? TIA

dehydration - not enough fluid intake but probably in general and not just the day of the fast

heat does not help

dehydration. like greenfire said.

try sipping Gatorade or powerade s-l-o-w-l-y after the fast.
don't drink water! just comes right up!

for a homemade powerade mix:
1 cup water
1 heaping teaspoon sugar
1 generous pinch salt
2 generous pinches baking soda

I like this even better than powerade/Gatorade. it has a very light sweet taste.
drink b4 the fast and after.

feel good!

It is dehydration and being starving that causes one to throw up.

There isn;t really a way to prevent it. If they prepare well, drink plenty gatorade, etc before the fast, the only way is to break the fast when they get sick by sipping on dioralyte and gatorade. And nibbling and dry foods.

Some people just CAN'T fast.

I have this every time I fast. I hang over the sink, dry heaving. its awful. and I drink tons of water on a daily basis even more before a fast. I have bottles of powerade zero in my fridge. no difference.

If you get sick to the point of vomiting multiple times when fasting, you should ask a shaila whether you should be fasting.

I get like this
For me it's a sugar imbalance
If I start throwing up, I can't stop for hours.
Once in less than 48hrs I lost 15lbs from throwing up. Not from fasting, pregnancy.but also do to sugars.
I need to stay away from all sugars, grains and starches, especially if I know I'm going to be fasting.
I had a really good Tisha Be AV
Things I did to be able to fast
1. I'm all the time low carb high good fat, only carbs I eat are from veggies, very little fruit.
2. Stayed away from caffeine the 3 weeks. Only decaf.
3. Drank a lot of waterthe whole 3 weeks. Not just before the fast.
4. Take chromium, I do this everyday in the am, but before the fast I took an extra in the afternoon.
5. Ate avocado at Seuda 3.
6. Drank cinnamon ginger tea, hot cold doesn't matter, can replace water.

B"H all this really helped. Slight headache at about 6 pm. Sunday, but that's it.

It's the only way I can fast. Do this for YK too
