DS is 2.5 and wearing size 2.
which underwear does your son wear that the elastic does not leave a mark? he's not big but has a typical baby belly and the underwear leaves a mark. he has not complained about it so I'm not sure if it bothers him but if I'm buying more anyway, I may as well buy something comfortable.

If it leaves a mark then its too tight. Try a bigger size.
I have old navy underwear for my 3yr dd that has a loose fit. Maybe that would work.
